Erewhon Books Welcomes New Executive Editor, Diana M. Pho
We here at Erewhon are overjoyed to welcome Diana Pho to the team as our new Executive Editor!
Diana (she/her) is a Hugo Award-winning editor with over 15 years of experience across various areas of the publishing industry, most notably the Science Fiction Book Club and the Tor Publishing Group. Before landing at Erewhon, Diana served as Lead Creative Executive for Co-Productions & Partnerships at the podcast studio Realm Media.
She has had the pleasure of working with household names like George R. R. Martin and the Robert Jordan estate for The Wheel of Time, as well as critically acclaimed writers such as Bethany C. Morrow, Lara Elena Donnelly, K. A. Doore, Margaret Killjoy, and others. Books she has edited have won the Thriller Award, the Ditmar Award, the American Library Association’s Alex Award, the Nebula Award, and a Kirkus Best Book of the Year Selection. Diana herself is also a two-time finalist for the Ignyte Award and a finalist for the Locus Award for her editorial work.
When asked about joining the team, Diana said, “I’ve had the joy of witnessing Erewhon since its launch by the intrepid Liz Gorinsky. It's a true dream come true to join an ambitious house with a beautifully growing list and Sarah Guan's keen publishing vision. Working with writers to create great stories has been my lifelong passion. I can’t wait to shepherd more brilliant speculative books into the world!”
Regarding the kind of stories she’s seeking, she said, “I’m actively looking for adult and YA crossover novels and novellas in science fiction, fantasy, and horror that can impact the greater pop culture conversation. My editorial tastes veer toward upmarket commercial fiction with an accessible hook. I’m especially excited by storytelling that explores chewy sociopolitical ideas, focuses on characters who are flawed but relatable, and highlights marginalized experiences. My favorite subgenres are historical and dark fantasy, near-future science fiction, new weird, the gothic, supernatural or psychological horror, and anything told with a punk edge.”
Diana will be working in conjunction with Publisher Sarah Guan (she/her), and will be supported by Editorial Assistant Viengsamai Fetters (they/them). The whole Erewhon Team is thrilled to have Diana onboard as we build our library of the beautiful, the strange, and the unique.
Sincerely,
The Erewhon Team
